Nourishing Lunch Box Ideas
It just has to happen.
These little people that we live with have to eat, despite the fact they we fed them earlier. It’s a vicious, never-ending cycle…
But hopefully, the following list of our favorite lunches and snacks will give you some ideas to make the food-packing process a little easier! Whether your children attend traditional school or they homeschool, these lunch ideas are easy enough to throw into a cute container, or pull out of the fridge!
Peanut Butter Shake (Just tell yourself its a “smoothie”. No one has shakes for breakfast! Good grief!) This is perfect for on the go and it beats cold cereal! pop it into a cute to-go cup and you’re set!
Grain-Free Nut Butter Cookies – These make a great breakfast or you can throw a few into the lunch box! Make a batch and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. (They also freeze beautifully!)
24 Easy (Traditional Food-Based) Kid Friendly Lunches – print out this list for some quick ideas! Most of these can be thrown together quickly and adapted for lunch on the road.
Soaked Buttermilk Oatmeal Muffins – These are easy to make ahead. Just fill them with nuts and dried fruits and you have a little meal! They’re incredibly filling and make a great on-the-go breakfast or lunch box addition!
Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Seeds – great as a side or tossed into a salad!
12 Gluten Free Snack Ideas (and a recipe for flour-less peanut butter muffins) – here’s a great list of items that you can grab from the fridge or pantry and take on the road! (plus, those muffins are addictive. You’ve been warned.)
And don’t forget the drinks!
Homemade Electrolyte Replacement Drink – this is BY FAR our most popular post and it’s so easy to make! Don’t send sugary juices or Gatorade – simply whip up a batch of this and store it in the fridge. Cut out all of the processed chemicals and save money in the process! (these are my favorite on-the-go drink bottles)
We homeschool our kids, and I find that we are eating on the road a lot! Between running errands, our co-op, field trips or extra-curricular lessons, it seems we are constantly on the go. I try to keep a selection of on-the-go foods ready each week, in case we find ourselves out and about.
