This has been a tortuously long road, as many of you who have walked this path surely know. If it were up to me, he would have been in my arms yesterday.
Plugging away, day after day, and going on with life, listening to my children talk about their “new brother” – all the while knowing that he’s out there somewhere makes every day and every week without him feel like an eternity. At this moment, there is nothing to see in front of me, and the only way I can keep pressing on is to go back to what I know- and to rely on my Faith to be my sight.
That’s when I created this piece – the one you see in the picture above.
I’m in love with its simplicity.
The pendent is a brushed bronze color and inside is a tiny mustard seed. The idea for this was taken from Matthew 17:20
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
As I made this, I thought about adding some pattern or floral print behind that tiny mustard seed to give it a pop of color. Something to sprice it up a bit and make it eye-catching.
But I just couldn’t do it.
Real faith, as small as it may be some days, (or some seasons!) isn’t flowery or colorful. It’s not flashy – and it’s definitely not trendy. It’s almost imperceptible at times, and it’s most obvious in the empty, dark, hollow place.
When there is nothing else left and nothing to prop it up….that’s when you see real faith.
It’s simple and unassuming, yet it can move mountains.
